Abstract

Background: The problem of decreasing environmental quality in Indonesia has been increasing lately (BPPT, 2012). This deterioration in environmental quality can be caused by the process of activities in hospitals that produce waste is discharged without proper treatment. To continue to develop and improve existing services at the Public health center in the Bojonegoro Regency, one of the efforts made is to improve the management of waste in hospitals to comply with Minister of Environment Regulation No. 56 2015. 

Purpose: The purpose of this study is 1). Exploring the process of managing Public health center solid medical waste in Bojonegoro Regency and 2). Exploring the constraints of managing medical waste at the health center and the efforts that have been made as well as the possible impact caused by medical waste. 

Method: The research design used is descriptive qualitative. Data collection using in-depth interview techniques with semi-structured questions with a sample of 15 informants with purposive sampling.

Results Trash Can have been distinguished for medical and non-medical, namely with different colors and writing, partners in waste management namely PT. Putra Restu Ibu Abadi (PT. PRIA), B3 landfill conditions can be concluded on average. Buildings are built permanently without using ventilation, non-ceramic rubber floors, and tightly closed so that rats or other rodents are difficult to enter. The main obstacle in the management of medical waste at the Bojonegoro District Health Center is more into the application of ineffective SOPs where there is still a shortage of trolleys, types of shelter and labeling at each shelter, sometimes even the negligent officer in disposing of medical waste so that it is mixed in non-medical waste

Conclusion: Overall the answers from the informants have shown that the level of knowledge of medical staff at the public health center in Bojonegoro district is quite good.
